When Do Bushes Bloom in ACNH?

Players need to know how the blooming seasons differ among ACNH bushes. Yes, bushes do not bloom simultaneously throughout the year. There are specific periods when bushes bloom.

There are at least two major influencing factors: bush type and hemisphere. In ACNH, there are two hemispheres: the Northern Hemisphere and the Southern Hemisphere. When you create an island in ACNH, you choose one of them, and each has opposite seasonal characteristics.

For example, the ACNH Azalea bush blooms from April 11 to May 31 in the Northern Hemisphere. In the Southern Hemisphere, however, it blooms from October 11 to November 30. Therefore, the blooming dates for these two regions should not be confused.

It’s possible that other players might see blooms while you don’t with the same type of bush, this could be due to the difference in hemispheres. You should also know that growth and blooming are distinct processes for ACNH bushes. Bushes will grow to maturity, at which point their flowers will bloom.

However, once they’ve passed the mature stage or are out of season, ACNH shrubs just look like ordinary bushes because they aren’t flowering or bearing fruit. On the first day, you’ll see buds on the bush. The very next day, you’ll see the flowers in full bloom.

How to Get Bushes in ACNH

To plant bushes, you’ll need to buy them first. So, how to get bushes in ACNH? There are at least two ways to do this, including:

Buy from Leif’s Flower Shop

You can buy them when Leif comes to your island. He’s usually outside the Resident Services building; interact with Leif to start buying bush starts. However, he may also be at his shop (inside Harvey’s Shopping Plaza).

Leif selling shrub starts and flowers in Animal Crossing New Horizons

Players have no control over or way to know exactly when Leif will appear. Leif’s presence on the island is quite random, so you’ll need to check periodically. The bushes he sells are also unpredictable, some are in season, and others are out of season (selected at random).

Taking Kapp’n Mystery Island Boat Tours

You can also find Animal Crossing bushes on these tours and bring them home. You’ll need to dig them up first using a shovel to obtain the bush.

How to Plant Bushes in ACNH

Just like planting flower seeds, planting bushes is the same. You just need to make sure you have a bush starter or a bush seedling. Make sure it’s in your inventory before planting it. So, how to plant bushes in ACNH? You can follow the steps below:

Three steps for planting bushes in Animal Crossing: New Horizons: dig a hole, place a shrub start, and let it grow.

    • Get a Bush Start: You can get a bush start from Leif. Choose a bush start based on your preferences or those of your island friends. Don’t forget that the blooming season can vary between different bushes.
    • Choose a Location: ACNH bushes can be planted next to a cliff edge, cliff wall, house, beach edge, or river edge. Consider the island’s aesthetics when deciding where to plant the bushes.
    • Plant the Bush: Open your inventory, select the bush seedling you want to plant, and choose the “Plant” option. The seedling will be planted immediately. If you want to replace a bush, you can dig it up first and then replant it with a new bush seedling purchased from Leif.
    • Let the Bush Grow: Hybrids or crossbreeding do not apply to ACNH bushes. Players need to wait 3 days for the bush to grow from the seedling. You also don’t need to use a watering can because the bush can grow on its own.
    • There are at least three main stages in a bush’s growth: from seedling or bush start to medium-sized bush and mature bush. During the bush’s growth (mature stage) and in accordance with the blooming season, flowers will bloom. After the mature stage and outside the blooming season, the bush that was previously in bloom becomes a regular bush.

How Long Do ACNH Bushes Take to Grow?

Bushes Animal Crossing will bloom after the maturity phase. From the time you plant a bush start, it takes 3 days for the bush to reach maturity. During the maturity phase, ACNH bushes do not bloom immediately. They will bloom according to their specific season or month.

You should check the blooming season for the bush seedling you planted to easily predict when it will bloom. So, throughout their growth period, bushes do not bloom immediately because they must first reach the maturity stage and align with their blooming months before they can produce flowers.

Can You Breed Bushes in ACNH?

ACNH doesn’t allow players to breed bushes the way you can with flowers. So, you can’t expect a new bush to appear by crossing a Red Hibiscus with a Yellow Hibiscus, for example. Yes, you can do that with regular flowers, but not with ACNH bushes.

So, how do you increase your collection? Buy more starter bushes from Leif or use other methods to expand your bush collection.

Can ACNH Bushes Grow on the Beach?

You can plant bushes in various areas, including the edge of the beach, as well as next to cliff walls, cliff edges, river edges, and houses. However, planting them on the main beach area itself isn’t possible. You might have seen bushes planted on the beach, but unfortunately, those are most likely from a modded island.

You can try it yourself, the planting option isn’t available for starter bushes if you’re in the main beach area. If anything can be planted on the main beach, it’s likely just palm trees. So, look for regular island terrain, such as green grass, dirt paths, and so on, where you can plant ACNH bushes.

How to Move Bushes in ACNH

You can move bushes to customize your island’s landscape. So, how to move bushes ACNH? You can do this using the shovel. Unlike large trees, moving bushes doesn’t require any special conditions.

You can move ACNH bushes even if they’re mature or in bloom. The bush you dig up will go into your inventory, and you can replant it in another area.

Bushes vs. Hedges in ACNH

Bushes and hedges are different even though they look similar. A bush is a living plant that can grow according to its unique blooming season, which varies by type. A bush grows from its initial stage until it blooms or bears fruit (e.g., the ACNH holly bush).

This is different from a hedge, which is a type of fence that you cannot obtain through Nook Stop. You can install hedges for landscaping or decorative purposes. No flowers ever appear on hedges at any time.
